CS373 Spring 2021: Remus Wong
- What did you do this past week?
Mostly was working on the IMDB project. I kind of touched a little bit of everything in the project so it was fun learning all about the pipeline. I was mostly handling postman and had to refresh a little of my react. I learned a little bit of it like two years ago but it's slowly coming back to me bit by bit. I’m not too interested in doing frontend (especially design) but it is probably worth brushing up a little bit to better understand what my teammates are doing.
- What’s in your way?
Postman is honestly kind of annoying. I understand the need but some of the interface choices make it very hard to iterate very quickly. In addition, I still need to understand more about formatting json/yaml files to have some more complexity in my schema because at the moment they’re just simple lists.
- What will you do next week?
I’ll be looking at flask and further implementing the api into the project. I’m interested to see how this will go as I’ve never touched the backend because the majority of the time I just use automated services or boilerplate code.
- If you read it, what did you think of the Open-Closed Principle?
I think that the principles in the open-closed principle article resonate a lot with single responsibility. However, this is probably one of the principles that I ignore the most often.
- What was your experience of iterators and reduce2? (this question will vary, week to week)
Pretty standard stuff and as usual python has some unique implementation of features.
- What made you happy this week?
I’ve been learning a 3D software called Houdini for about a year now and am pretty happy with my progress. This month the company that creates the software hosted a challenge for the month where they introduce a theme every day. I’m trying to do the iron man challenge and create a render every day and I’ve gotten pretty decent at turning around a render in a reasonable amount of time.
- What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
If you’re taking a swing at using flask I would recommend this tutorial
