  1. What did you do this past week?
I met up with my group to discuss our project proposal. I wish we had met a little earlier as a group earlier proposed a project idea that I wanted to explore. After seeing the Mars Perseverance Rover launch I wanted to do something related to space but I’m happy with our current idea, ReadyRecipes, that educates people about growing local produce and learning new recipes.
  2. What’s in your way?
The task ahead is definitely daunting but it's these types of interesting challenges that make it all worthwhile to do and rewarding in the end. I’ve only touched frontend technologies like React very briefly and I wasn’t really interested in it. However, I took data management last semester and had a fun time using PostgreSQL and look forward to exploring the backend.
  3. What will you do next week?
Work. Plan. Work. I definitely want to get a head start on this project. However, I’m juggling my projects in Computer Graphics which is taking up a good chunk of my time, and quite enjoying it. I’ll have to pull myself away and work on this but once my group gets the foundation of the project down I think we’ll have a good amount of momentum to carry us through.
  4. If you read it, what did you think of the Single Responsibility Principle?
Definitely an idea I struggle with but I think that being good with SRP just comes with more experience and time.
  5. What was your experience of IDB1 and reduce? (this question will vary, week to week)
I’m familiar with the ideas that reduce introduces but I’ve never really utilized it myself in my own work. One reason is due to the programming languages that I use don’t have the ability or have a little bit more overhead to perform the same functionality.
  6. How did you fare in the storm?
Not that bad. I only lost power for around 1.5 days. Nothing like using the fireplace for the first time and camping in my house.
  7. What made you happy this week?
There is GDC² this weekend which is an event hosted by EGaDS that has industry speakers from the game industry come and talk.
  8. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
Gitlab has a lot of functionality and most of the tools are there like trello, aws, and what not have the ability to connect with your gitlab repo.
